UK - New Visa Rules
UK Border Agency (UKBA) of the Government of UK has made a few changes for student visa processing, on 1st June 2009.
Till now, applicants were asked to show they have the money needed to meet the maintenance requirements of tier 4 Student visa, on the day that they apply, rather than for a period of 28 days prior to their application.
These transitional arrangements (showing funds availability on the day of application for visa) have been extended and will remain available to applicants until 30
September 2009.
Till 1st June, there was no provision for a student visa applicant’s financial sponsor to extend their sponsorship to the family members of the applicant.
From 1 June 2009, the sponsors will be permitted to extend their financial sponsorship to cover the applicant’s dependants too.
Applicants who will be studying in inner London are required to show a higher level of funds to cover their living costs than those who will be studying outside London.
Now, the higher maintenance requirements (800 Pounds per month, for 9 months) apply only to those who will be studying in inner London and that applicants who will be studying in outer London or elsewhere in the United Kingdom, will be assessed against the lower requirements of 600 Pounds per month (for 9 months).
Now, there is no need for the number of the Bank account of the sponsor (or/and the student) to be included in the Loan Sanction letter issued by the bank.
TOEFL - New Change
Beginning July 2009, the TOEFL test will use automated scoring to complement human scoring for one of the two tasks in the Writing section. Combining human judgment for content and meaning, and automated scoring for linguistic features, ensures that all test takers will receive consistent, quality scores that gives them a comprehensive picture of an applicant’s ability to communicate and succeed at universities throughout the world, especially in the USA, Europe and Canada.
